Get Your Best Body With the Top 2014 Fitness Trend!

FF Banner

And the winner is….. (drum roll)…

HIIT or High Intensity Interval Training! According to the ACSM (American College of Sports Medicine) the number one 2014 fitness trend is HIIT.

2014 Best Fitness Trend

What is HIIT?

HIIT is exactly what it says – High Intensity Interval Training. Twenty seconds of high intensity (all you got) training followed by 10 seconds of rest, repeated 8 times (or 4 minutes).

Why HIIT?

What makes this workout so popular?

First off, according to all of the hype, you can burn fat faster with shorter exercise durations by doing HIIT instead of steady state cardio. The theory is that the after burn of doing HIIT is higher than that of steady state cardio so you are burning a higher percentage of calories even after you have finished your workout. Summary: Less working out, more fat burning!

Secondly, it’s not so freakin boring! While performing HIIT you are constantly changing what you are doing so there is no opportunity for getting bored. Many people give up on their steady state cardio because it is just so damn monotonous and boring! Summary: Not boring!

Thirdly, heart health. Again, according to all the hype, while performing HIIT you are actually building a stronger heart. You force the heart to work extremely hard and then you allow it to recover, This is the same thing you do when lifting weights – force them to work hard than allow them to recover. So, it would make sense that it would apply to your cardiovascular system as well, right? Summary – Healthy, strong heart.

Try it!

Here’s an example of a 24 minute HIIT workout. Try it and let me know what you think!
